Choosing the Right Containers and Bins
For most, unwanted clutter is often of various sizes and shapes. When trying to develop a home organization approach, this fact can overwhelm some who find it difficult to visualize a solution for the wide variety of clutter. Luckily, choosing the right containers and bins is easier than ever, considering they come in just as diverse sizes and shapes. Of course, the key to any organization project is not just to find any solution, but to find the best solution for the items and the available space. So what factors are the most important to consider when choosing bins or containers to organize your space?
Perhaps the most important factor to consider for choosing the right containers and bins to organize your home are the items you plan on storing inside. Many of the questions we receive relate to what size of containers are most appropriate for certain items. Some feel the need to purchase the largest bins available and fit every item possible inside. Others prefer a lot of smaller containers that can fit almost anywhere. In reality, though, you will need the containers that best fit the items you want them to contain. For heavier items, consider using the smallest containers possible to prevent making the bin too heavy and awkward. Lighter items like pillows, blankets, etc., can go into larger bins without making them unbearable.
With any home organization project, it is much more important to do it right than to just get it done. Depending on the location of your containers (i.e., hidden away in a closet vs. out in the open), you’ll obviously want a different look. Regardless of whether they are decorative or not, choosing the right containers and bins often has an element of coordination. Not only will this give you a great look, but it will also help maximize the area you are storing your containers in. After all, you don’t want to end up with containers and bins that are just a mismatched and unorganized as the original clutter issue.
