Storage Boxes

More and more people have been finding a need for off-site, long term storage options.  Thanks to shows like Storage Wars, though, these facilities have the stigma of being associated with pack rats and hoarders.  Of course, behind all this is the fact that there is absolutely nothing wrong with needing a little extra space to store your possessions.  It’s certainly quite a bit more affordable than building a larger house.  Besides that, storage facilities can be especially helpful for storing items like boats, seasonal decoration and furniture, or even as simply a transition area during your move.

So what do you really need to know before you jump on the long term storage bandwagon?  First of all, you need to assume that your items will be staying in storage for twice as long as you think.  Even if this end up not being the case, it never hurts to be overprotective of your things.  This means using boxes and packing supplies that can stand up to any of the long term storage options.  You will also want to carefully select your container and organization technique to make sure your boxes and the items within will be safe for the long haul.

That having been said, many folks are going with a variety of mobile long term storage options.  Basically, the company drops the container off, you fill it up, and they take it away to their facility or your new home.  This has provided a significant revolution to the moving industry, but can be just as handy for longer term organization of your items.  Again, you will want to carefully select the type and size of your container to maximize the efficiency of this approach.  Whether you leave your things in their for a few weeks or a few years, at least you will know they are safe and sound and your house is looking more organized than ever.
